American Coot - Neighborhood Bully
Coots, or Mud Hens, as they are also called, are common to Alberta ponds and sloughs. And they are VERY territorial, making an effort to run off any other waterfowl in their nesting area. They are fast, so you need to anticipate where they are going to be and use a fast shutter speed. They're also lot's of fun and their babies are....well, as ugly as a coot. Note the coot's eye highlight, which seems to add to his ferocity.
